Frequently Asked Questions
Northern Michigan lakefront properties come with unique conditions. Below are answers to some of the most common questions we receive about docks, boat lifts, seasonal service, and waterfront transport.
If you don’t see your question here, feel free to contact us.
Dock Installation
How do I know what type of dock I need?
The right dock depends on your water depth, shoreline layout, lake conditions, and how you plan to use it. During a waterfront consultation, we measure and evaluate your shoreline before recommending a layout.
Do water levels affect dock setup?
Yes. Water levels fluctuate from season to season and even throughout the summer. Proper planning and installation ensure your dock sits correctly despite changing conditions.
Can I expand my dock later?
In many cases, yes. We can design dock systems with future expansion in mind so additional sections or slips can be added later.
Do you offer maintenance-free dock systems?
Yes. We install durable vinyl dock systems built for Michigan lake conditions that require minimal upkeep compared to traditional materials.
Boat Lifts
What size boat lift do I need?
Lift size depends on your boat’s weight, length, width, and hull design. We evaluate these factors during your consultation to ensure proper support and safe operation.
What is the difference between hydraulic and manual boat lifts?
Hydraulic lifts offer push-button operation and faster lift times, often powered by solar-charged batteries. Manual systems may be appropriate depending on boat size and usage. We’ll help you determine which option fits your needs.
Can you adjust my lift if I purchase a new boat?
Yes. We regularly modify and adjust lift setups to properly support new boats.
Do lifts need seasonal adjustments?
Lake levels and usage can affect positioning. Because we handle seasonal installation, lifts are adjusted appropriately each year.
Seasonal Installation & Removal
When should I schedule spring installation?
We recommend contacting us early in the year. Seasonal schedules fill quickly, and planning ahead helps ensure your dock and lift are ready when lake conditions allow.
When should I schedule fall removal?
We recommend scheduling fall removal before cold temperatures and early storms arrive. Waiting too long can increase the risk of damage from freezing conditions or rough weather.
As with spring installation, fall schedules fill quickly. Planning ahead helps ensure your equipment is removed safely and prepared for winter.
Do I need to be present during installation or removal?
Not necessarily. As long as access and instructions are confirmed in advance, installation and removal can often be completed without you present.
What happens if the weather delays installation or removal?
Spring and fall conditions vary year to year. We schedule efficiently and communicate clearly if weather impacts timing.
Dock & Lift Repair
Do you repair equipment you didn’t install?
We can evaluate most dock and lift systems and determine what repairs or adjustments are possible.
Should I repair or replace my dock or lift?
That depends on condition, age, and structural integrity. We provide honest recommendations so you understand your options before making a decision.
Can you inspect a used boat lift before I purchase it?
Yes. We can inspect used lifts to determine whether they are appropriate for your boat and waterfront.
Barge & Waterfront Transport
When is barge transport needed?
If your property is not accessible by land or requires water-based delivery, barge transport may be the best solution.
Can you move my dock or lift to another lake?
Yes. We can assist with lake-to-lake transport and repositioning equipment when needed.
What types of equipment can you transport by barge?
We transport docks, boat lifts, and related waterfront equipment.
